Governor Idris vowed to restore adequate power supply to Kebbi

 

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has intensified efforts towards ensuring adequate power supply for the socio-economic development of the state.

A statement by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor said that since the assumption of office, the Comrade Governor has been engaging technical experts in electricity and put in huge resources aimed at improving the electricity supply with a view to achieving his ambitious industrialization agenda. He is currently in London, UK, attending an International Energy Summit organized by Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to discuss ways to boost energy access and investment in the region.

The Summit with the Theme ” Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development” was being attended by senior government officials, energy experts, development partners, and private sector investors.

They are expected to deliberate on unlocking the vast investment potential within(KAEDCO) franchise with a focus on innovative strategies to strengthen power generation, transmission, and distribution with a view to addressing critical challenges affecting energy access in the region.

Parts of the highlight of the summit includes discussion around the effective implementation of the 2023 Electricity Act, a landmark reform aimed at decentralizing the power sector.

Comrade Governor Nasir Idris’s presence at the international forum underscores his proactive approach to economic growth and his commitment to the energy sector reform as well as attracting investment for electricity infrastructure. infrastructure.

He is expected to engage, at a side room consultations with credible investors on improving electricity infrastructure, ensuring sustainable power supply with the capacity of supporting the industrialization of the state, blessed with abundant agricultural products and large deposits of solid minerals.

It could be recalled that Governor Idris has implemented a number of initiatives to improve the power supply.

These included the recent procurement of a 15MVA transformer worth over N650million, approving N150million monthly support for KAEDCO, Procuring 40 transformers with accessories worth N520m and planning to procure additional 40 transformers. END
