The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Engr. Bello Lawal, led a high-powered delegation to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at Force Headquarters, Abuja, to reinforce strategic collaboration between ALGON and the Nigeria Police Force.
The delegation comprised key ALGON Executives, including Chief Odunayo Ategbero (Chairman, Board of Trustees), Barr. (Mrs.) Evan Enekwe (Acting Director General), Hon. Alabi Kolade (former National President), alongside Senator Alphonsus Ubanesse.
During the meeting, Hon. Lawal reaffirmed ALGON’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police in combating insecurity across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of IGP Disu as a strategic step toward enhancing grassroots security and pledged ALGON’s full cooperation in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Lawal emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing, community policing, and operational synergy, noting that ALGON is consolidating efforts to ensure every local government is adequately protected.
He also condemned recent unauthorized intrusions at the ALGON Secretariat, describing them as a breach of constitutional order. “We have chosen the path of forgiveness, but any further violation will be met with decisive legal and constitutional action,” he stated.
In his response, the IGP Disu welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for ALGON’s longstanding support, including the donation of operational vehicles (ALGON PRADO JEEPS) in the early 2000s. He assured the association of the Police Force’s readiness to deploy resources effectively and leverage his experience in rapid response and community engagement. “Your visit is deeply appreciated. We will continue to build on our shared commitment to secure lives and property,” he said.
Senior police officials, including Deputy Inspectors General: DIG Adegoke Fayoade Mustapha, DIG Ibrahim B. Zango, and
DIG Kenchukwu Onwuemelie as well as Assistant Inspectors General, and the Secretary to the Office of the IGP, joined the meeting, underscoring its significance.
The engagement marks a renewed chapter in ALGON’s partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at fortifying security and democratic governance across the federation.
Others in attendance include: Hon. Dr. Okafor Odinaka Cyril (BOT South East), Hon. Shehu Marshal (Chief of Staff), , Dr. Ben Nkechika (Health Consultant), and Donald Ayibiowu Esq (Special Adviser on Legislative Matters).
