2027: PDP will be on the ballot box – Wike, as Party elects new national officers

Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu and Kamaldeen Ajibade were among the 21 principal officers elected at the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that took place at the National Stadium Abuja over the weekend.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, who addressed party faithfuls at the convention called for unity and inclusiveness as the party seeks to rebuild after its internal crisis.
The Minister also assured party supporters that the party will field candidates at all the levels in 2027.
Addressing delegates at the party’s national convention, Wike said the PDP had overcome a major leadership crisis that threatened its existence, crediting members’ resilience for its survival.
He urged aggrieved members to return, assuring that no one would be excluded in the party’s renewal process. Wike stressed that the PDP must remain people-focused, promoting internal democracy and equal opportunities, while committing to rebuilding a stronger platform capable of meeting Nigerians’ aspirations.
Assuring members that the future is the party is still bright, he said “By the grace of God PDP will field candidates in 2027” Wike said.
Also in his address, Chairman of the 2026 National Convention Planning Committee, Okezie Ikpeazu declared that peace and reconciliation within the party are non-negotiable as it seeks to overcome internal crises.
In his welcome address at the party’s elective national convention in Abuja, Ikpeazu said the PDP must urgently close ranks, rebuild trust, and reposition itself as a united political force ahead of future elections.
He noted that the convention, themed Inclusiveness, Unity, and Renewal, represents a critical turning point for the party following years of internal challenges and leadership disputes.
“The duty of genuine reconciliation within our party is not optional; it is fundamental,” Ikpeazu said, urging the incoming National Working Committee to act decisively in healing divisions and restoring discipline across party structures.
He commended party members for their resilience, describing them as the backbone of the PDP’s survival despite electoral setbacks and internal tensions.
Ikpeazu also acknowledged key stakeholders, including Nyesom Wike, for their roles in sustaining the party during difficult periods.
He stressed that the convention must go beyond routine procedures, serving as a moment of renewal and a commitment to unity, warning that the party’s future depends on its ability to reconcile and move forward as one.
Also in his remarks, Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged party members to embrace unity and reconciliation as the party holds its national convention in Abuja.
Addressing delegates, Mohammed described the gathering as a defining moment for reflection and renewal after a period marked by internal disputes and legal battles. He stressed that the convention was not merely about electing leaders but about restoring order and purpose within the party.
He said recent judicial decisions affirming the caretaker leadership should not be seen as victory for any faction but as a reminder of the importance of due process and constitutional order.
The chairman acknowledged the roles of key stakeholders, including Nyesom Wike and Bukola Saraki, in stabilising the party.
Mohammed declared that “no ambition is greater than the party,” urging members to prioritise peace, unity, and collective interest as Nigerians look to the PDP for credible leadership.
